Pinterest Inspired Necktie Trim on a Camisole

My favorite material to upcycle with is a handsome silk tie. Currently, my favorite technique is trimming a top with an alternative neckline; this is the second neckline I have trimmed with a neck tie.

I had wanted to do a craft from one of my Pinterest boards for a while, but needed one that requires minimal shopping. This re-fashion was my best fit because I have a small stash of ties left over from “the great tie skirt sewing project of 2009” (Shall I share pictures? You tell me.) and a camisole that I don’t wear often as is. The only materials I bought were a spool of thread (because I ran out of my color mid-crafting) and a button embellishment. For me, this craft cost less than five dollars. Continue reading

Washi What? Three Washi Tape Frame Ideas

IMG_0017Previously, I posted my first washi craft, Washi Tape Bookshelf: covering wood damage with washi tape. I loved how washi tape made my beat up book shelf look new.

Another great thing about crafting with washi tape is how non-committal it is. It has light stickiness and is easy to remove. As a renter, I used washi tape to tape pictures on my walls to avoid more holes that I would have to spackle over later. Also, a lot of frames add up in cost. Tape and paper cut down on part of framing costs.

In this post, I am sharing my use of washi tape to frame pictures.

Washi Tape Bookshelf: covering wood damage with washi tape

Washi tape has sparked my imagination in my efforts in home decorating for cheap. With all the creative ideas online, I have more projects I want to do than I can probably afford in tape. With all of the cute prints and colors, I want to tape up my entire home!

“Wa-shi” means Japanese-paper. The tape is paper with a light amount of stickiness, slightly stickier than masking tape. Washi tape is a great material for easy home decorating. It is easy to remove from walls, so it is a good decoration for renters*.  Popular uses include taping pictures to walls and wall papering geometric designs. It comes in decorative colors and prints. The selection is endless. Washi tape can be found at craft stores and from online retailers.

*Then, one day I pulled some tape off my wall and this happened!washi accident

A few weeks ago I found this bookshelf abandoned near the dumpsters in my apartment complex. It now functions as a game shelf. We previously kept all of our games in the closet. Keeping the games out in the open makes them more accessible and more likely to be played with.

The edges of the wood on the shelf were pretty badly beaten up. The wood finish was peeling from rain damage. It looked easy to fix. Continue reading

Wedding Seating Chart: Tuxedo Style

creative wedding seating chart

Mom and The Explorer made my wedding seating chart with paper cutouts and poster board. I wanted a single board instead of an army of escort cards. Their tuxedo design came out beautifully. Each table was printed on the surrounding white papers with the table name, number, and guests.

The tuxedo design was made with:

printed lists of guests and table numbers on the perimeter,

ivory scrap book paper cut in rectangles and triangles for the shirt and collar,

ivory ribbon tied in a bow,

craft “gems” and glue,

one black poster board.

OhMiGosh! I’m getting married in less than 24 hours!!! Pimp my step ladder.

OhMiGosh! I'm getting married in less than 24 hours!!! Pimp my step ladder.

I haven’t had time to put anything online. My excuse for everything in life has been “I’m getting married in [a week, few days, tomorrow…]

Here’s a nice picture of my step stool which Mom insists I need in order for Future-Hubby and I to properly cut our cake. I told Mom I will use a step ladder only if it’s spectacular. This is what happened when The Explorer, my maid-of-honor sister, pimped my step ladder!

DIY Sparkly Wedding Photo Frames

This Fall 2013, TheKnot.com is trending cute picture frames numbering reception tables, providing cake flavor info, and even giving instructions to sign the guest book (sign our guest book, please!). As info-graphic-y as it may all seem, I think frames are a cute way to display all info and adds continuity throughout the reception room if all frames match. Frames are cozier than tall table number picks. I like the subtle intimacy of home when I see anything in a photo frame (even menu options). These frames are going to hold my table numbers. Read on for my DIY frame craft. Continue reading
